Cornucopia Cafe and Nursery is located on the grounds of the Old Gladesville Hospital, the former psychiatric hospital. The not for profit business runs a supported employment program employing people living with a Mental illness.
The business consists of a Cafe, Native Plant Nursery and Garden Maintenance Operation. Our cafe is open Monday to Friday and provides a breakfast and lunch service to the 1300 people on site. We have indoor seating for 40 people, a beautiful outdoor courtyard with additional seating, take away food options and a catering service for the offices on site. Our menus change twice weekly offering freshly prepared seasonal produce often grown on site.
The success of the business is due to many things:
The dedication of the managers who support, train and mentor our employees who live with the disability.
The enthusiasm, hard work and loyalty of the employees.
Our customer service skills and attitude to the many customers who use our facility
The quality and variety of dishes on the menu sold at very reasonable prices to give our customers excellent value for money. Freshly prepared dishes often incorporate fruit, vegetables, herbs and salad ingredients grown in our own vegetable patch-often unusual items such as sorrel, lemon grass, rhubarb and radicchio.
Really good consistent coffee provided by our amazing baristas.
The support and loyalty of our customers - some frequent the business numerous times daily.
The business aims to provide our workers with industry experience and qualifications, enabling our employees to live fulfilling and financially independent lives with options of moving into mainstream employment.
We have a diverse customer base ranging from the local tennis club, our Police force, IT and Mental Health experts who are passionate about our business.
