Our history

Established in the 1920s and spanning 3 generations, Central Pianos is a proud family owned business based in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. With strong links to the Arts and Theatre, Archibald Simmons launched the British Pianoforte Depot (his father Edward Simmons was a leading prominent figure in piano and theatre). In the 1940s, Archibald’s son, George Simmons took over the business naming it Central Pianos. George’s only son, Raymond Simmons was in the business with his father taking full ownership in the early 1970s.
Into the 1990s, Ashley and Marie Coull (nee Simmons) are the proud proprietors of Central Pianos and have been in the music business for the last 18 years.
Central Pianos is the longest running piano business in the East of Sydney and arguably in Australia and has been prominently figured in the media for its contributions to the piano industry and arts in general.
Central Pianos is a longstanding member of the Australian Music Trades Association.

Central Pianos’ Ashley Coull specialises in the expert tuning and repair of new and used pianos utilising traditional techniques and tools matched with excellent craftsmanship and materials.
Our approach is simple, we value supporting creativity, a lifelong passion for music and we are committed to providing value for money without compromising quality excellence.
We are proud to uphold our longstanding commitment to service excellence and unparalleled professionalism and reliability. We provide mobile service to new and regular clients across NSW and the ACT offering professional piano tuning and repairs. We provide support to budding pianists looking for that ‘beginners’ piano right through to concert pianists, entertainers, piano teachers wanting to find that exceptional instrument made just for them.

Support to the Community

Our patrons are diverse and we provide expert service to pianos at homes, at concert halls, at clubs and pubs, at 5 star hotels, at government sites, at the defence force barracks, at schools, at universities, at parishes, at community outreach sites, at events.
We value giving back to our community and have provided free tuning to communities that support our disadvantaged and disabled members, to bring joy through the shared love of piano music.

Our Vision

Our vision is simple. To carry on the tradition of an exceptional standard of piano service, to make every visit a welcoming and positive experience and to ensure that the love for piano music continues to flourish into the 21st Century and beyond.
